RALEIGH, N.C. (September 20, 2024) – Wake Tech is planning three life-changing Study Abroad trips for next summer. The trips are offered as part of the college's new Global Education program.
The first trip is to London at the end of May for students taking MUS-110: Music Appreciation. Dr. Katharine Gilleland will lead students on a musical walking tour of London, a visit to the Royal Academy of Music, a tour and performance at the Royal Opera House and more.
In June, art students will travel to Paris with Drs. Robert Mayhew and Allison Fox. Students in ART-115: Art History Survey II will get a hands-on experience of art history in French collections from the Renaissance to contemporary art. The tour will include the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Versailles and more.
Also in June, students in BUS-110: Intro to Business have the opportunity to travel to Japan with Dr. Denise Barton. They will tour the Tokyo National Museum, experience the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden and Tea Ceremony, learn Japanese business terms and visit several businesses, including the Kikuichi Monji Shiro Kanenaga Knife store.
"We're thrilled to offer these exciting Study Abroad opportunities for our students," said Wake Tech Global Education Director Dr. Rebecca Berry. "Global education helps students deepen their understanding of other cultures, ultimately making them more marketable in the workplace."
Thanks to funding from the Wake Tech Foundation, scholarships will be awarded to two students per trip. The scholarships cover the cost of the program and airfare. Scholarship applications may be obtained by noting interest on the Study Abroad application. The deadline to apply for a scholarship is October 31.
All courses earn three hours of college credit, which transfers seamlessly to universities. They also fulfill a requirement toward earning a Scholar of Global Distinction notation on the student's transcript.
The Global Education program was launched this year, with Study Abroad trips to Rome, Paris and Salzburg, Austria. Dozens of courses at Wake Tech are now globally intensive, offering content, speakers and activities that educate students about regions and issues around the world.
