Cyber Aware Day is October 17

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 20, 2024) – If you've ever considered a career in cybersecurity, you won't want to miss Cyber Aware Day at Wake Tech on October 17. The event at the college's RTP Campus in Morrisville will spotlight training programs and jobs in this in-demand field.

Cyber Aware Day takes place from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and is free, but advance registration is required.

"The ever-evolving threat of cybercrime has elevated cybersecurity as a highly sought-after career that is expected to continue to grow," said Cindy Luttrell, dean of Information Technology programs at Wake Tech. "With this event, we're hoping to bring more awareness about training and careers in cybersecurity, as well as showcase the latest trends in the high-demand industry."

Cyber Aware Day includes a keynote address from cybersecurity expert and author Dr. Mark Ciampa and an industry panel of local cyber experts who will answer questions and give guidance on preparing to become a cybersecurity professional. Attendees can also learn about cybersecurity and other IT training programs at Wake Tech, as well as network with industry leaders and learn about job opportunities.

A National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education institution, Wake Tech offers degree programs producing graduates with certified cyber defense expertise. The Cybersecurity Associate in Applied Science degree is one of the college's largest degree programs, with more than 1,100 students currently enrolled.

During Cyber Aware Day, current cybersecurity students from Wake Tech and colleges across the state will test their ability to find and exploit vulnerabilities in real time during a fast-paced Capture the Flag competition. Winners will take home tech prizes, including iPads, a Holy Stone GPS drone and Beats wireless headphones.

The event is sponsored by the Carolina Cyber Network, a collaboration of colleges and universities in North Carolina that works to develop a cybersecurity workforce pipeline.
