RALEIGH, N.C. (July 3, 2024) – Wake Tech students shined on the national stage at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta and the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Collegiate National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla.
Cheval Batts placed fourth in Advertising Design, and Hasten Goins earned eighth place in Architectural Drafting at SkillsUSA.
Four students from Vernon Malone College and Career Academy also brought home awards:
- Janelle Anokye and Sofia Craft, 9th place in Interactive Application and Video Game Development
- Kaden Quinn, 9th place in Welding
- Keony Sagrero, 16th place in Nurse Assisting
The students put their skills to the test alongside 6,500 others in the nation's largest showcase of skilled trades.
Bradley Huntoon, who is pursuing Associate in Applied Science degrees in Network Management and Cloud Infrastructure, won fifth place in Foundations of Technology at the FBLA conference. He said the experience was challenging and rewarding.
"I am proud of what I accomplished! Advancing beyond thousands of other students to stand at that point is a strong affirmation of the quality of education I have obtained at Wake Tech," Huntoon said.
Huntoon is no stranger to national competitions. He placed third in both Networking Concepts and Computer Concepts last year.
FBLA, formerly Phi Beta Lambda, is the nation's largest business career and technical student organization.
