Hendrick Center Sets a New Standard

Raleigh, NC (October 26, 2022) – Wake Tech is celebrating an impressive recognition from the City of Raleigh. The college's Hendrick Center for Automotive Excellence received a 2022 Sir Walter Raleigh Award from the City of Raleigh Appearance Commission.

The Hendrick Center, on the Scott Northern Wake Campus, is home to Wake Tech's high-demand Automotive Systems and Collision Repair programs. It was recognized in the Education category for "setting a new standard" for the future of automotive repair education. The awards were handed out in a ceremony at Raleigh's Union Station.

The 100,000-square-foot Hendrick Center serves as an employment pipeline for the Triangle region's automotive dealerships. Its programs generate a skilled workforce capable of servicing the latest vehicle technologies, including hybrid and all-electric vehicles.

The facility was designed by global architecture firm Gensler, which says it is designed to draw out the best in students and motivate faculty and visitors to engage in the discovery of their craft. The architecture aims to serve as a benchmark facility for producing the next generation of innovative automotive repair technicians and thinkers.

The jury for the Sir Walter Raleigh Awards called the Hendrick Center "a beautiful project" which sets "a great tone for the importance of community college education." Jury members also commented that the facility ties well to the campus as a whole and weaves sustainability throughout.

This is the second building on Wake Tech's Scott Northern Wake Campus to earn a Sir Walter Raleigh Award from the Raleigh Appearance Commission. In 2019, the college was recognized for Building F, which the commission said "raised the bar" on the design and construction of educational facilities.
