Therapy Dog Helps Students De-Stress Before Midterms

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 11, 2025) – Students relieved the stress of preparing for midterms with the help of a special four-legged friend at the Southern Wake Campus library.

Hosted by Student Activities, Coffee & Cuddles allowed students to pet, cuddle and relax with Harper, a certified Labradoodle therapy dog from the Raleigh chapter of "Love on a Leash."

First-year student Jamar Brown said he was glad to take a pause from his studies to meet Harper and enjoy coffee and snacks. "He's very friendly," Brown said. "This event is very therapeutic."

Student Activities Coordinator Maryia Marks said the event reminds students that the college is here to support and help them through the semester, especially during exam time.

"This is one of my favorite events we do here at Wake Tech," Marks said. "The best part of this event is seeing students' reactions when the same dogs come back from the previous semester."

Students will have more opportunities to relax and de-stress with therapy dogs in April and May just before finals.
