Scholarships

Scholarships are the most sought-after type of financial assistance by college students because the money does not have to be repaid. North Carolina, the Wake Tech Foundation and area businesses and organizations offer an array of scholarships for which students can apply.

  • Scholarship funds are divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters unless otherwise requested by the donor or indicated as a single-semester disbursement.
  • Students can usually access scholarship funds within two weeks to charge tuition and fees and purchase books and supplies in the Campus Bookstore.
  • Organizations often contact the Financial Aid Office for potential scholarship recipients. This information is posted on Self-Service as it becomes available.

Wake Tech Foundation scholarships

Scholarships provided through the Wake Tech Foundation are the result of the generosity of businesses, professional organizations, civic clubs and individuals. A scholarship selection committee determines the recipients each year.

Both merit-based and need-based scholarships are available. Scholarships are also offered on a competitive basis that considers academic excellence, achievement, leadership qualities, need and other criteria as stipulated by the donor.

Awards are usually restricted to tuition assistance and require the recipient to maintain a minimum GPA to continue the scholarship. Each scholarship is offered for one academic year, beginning with the Fall semester, and students must reapply each spring for the following year.

Outside scholarships

Many organizations offer scholarships based on place of residence, background, professional affiliations and/or field of study. Each has its own eligibility requirements and application deadline.

Students should search and apply for outside scholarships independently. Many free scholarship search sites are online, and books listing available scholarships can be found in bookstores and libraries.

Any student offered an outside scholarship should provide a copy of the offer notice to the Financial Aid Office to ensure that funds are available in a timely manner. Scholarship checks from outside donors should be sent to:
