Wake Tech Shifts Classes Online to Mitigate Spread of Coronavirus
College Also Suspends On-Campus Activities
RALEIGH, N.C. (March 12, 2020) – Due to the seriousness of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) global pandemic, Wake Tech is transitioning all on-campus courses to an online format and suspending on-campus activities from March 15 to April 5. All athletics practices, games and team activities – on or off campus – are also on hold. The transition period covers Spring Break (next week) and the two weeks following the break.
In addition:
- All Career and College Promise (CCP) students will transition to online classes.
- Students at Wake Early College of Health Sciences, Vernon Malone College and Career Academy, and the North Wake College and Career Academy should contact their school principal for information specific to their classes.
- Current non-degree continuing education courses, except those online, will be suspended.
“We’ve been carefully monitoring this developing situation over the past several weeks and believe it’s time to take this next step in our response to help mitigate this epidemic,” said Wake Tech President Dr. Scott Ralls. “We realize the transition to all online classes will be challenging for both students and faculty, but students can rest assured that instructors will work with them to achieve their academic goals this semester.”
No cases of coronavirus have been identified on Wake Tech campuses. The college’s Coronavirus Task Force will reassess the situation and review further measures as developments warrant.
Although Wake Tech is suspending on-campus activities, the college remains open with limited services. Key college personnel will be on campus during regular business hours, while non-essential employees will be permitted to work from home.
