Entrepreneurs Seek a Lifeline at Wake Tech
RALEIGH, N.C. (August 2, 2010) - More than 100 small business owners met face-to-face with potential lenders today at Wake Tech's Western Wake Campus. "Access to Capital" was organized by U.S. Representatives Bob Etheridge and David Price to support small businesses, which account for more than half of all jobs in the private sector. The event featured information sessions, a roundtable discussion, and a "Lender Matchmaker" component.
The "Lender Matchmaker" program was a rare opportunity for small business owners to speak with more than a dozen lending institutions about their financial needs. Many said the economy had taken a heavy toll and forced them to seek loans for working capital. While acknowledging that regulations have tightened, the lenders offered helpful insights and advice.
Top banking, commerce and Small Business Administration officials met separately with Reps. Etheridge and Price. Their discussion focused on ways that private lenders and government can work together to increase access to capital for small businesses.
Wake Technical Community College is home to the Wachovia Wells Fargo Center for Entrepreneurship, as well as the Small Business Center. Both provide resources and training designed to help small businesses succeed. For more information, visit http://entrepreneurship.waketech.edu.
