Local Business Leader’s Generous Gift Continues Commitment to Wake Tech

RALEIGH, N.C. (February 12, 2013) – A Raleigh business leader and long-time supporter of Wake Tech has contributed $50,000 to support scholarships for students facing financial hardship. John Alexander, president and general manager of Cardinal International Trucking, today gave the generous donation to Wake Tech’s major gifts campaign, “The Ripple Effect,” in honor of his wife, Susan. The announcement was made at the dedication of the Susan C. Alexander Culinary Labs and Dining Hall on Wake Tech’s Main Campus.

Mr. Alexander is a former Wake Tech Foundation board member who played a critical role in the effort to raise more than a million dollars to re-charter the Foundation in 1991. He has been an avid supporter of Wake Tech since 1989.

“We greatly appreciate John’s generosity over the years,” said Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott, “and we’re tremendously grateful that he chose to honor his wife by supporting Wake Tech students and educational programs with this gift.”

The Ripple Effect is a response to record-breaking enrollment at Wake Tech and increased demand for the many training programs and educational options the college offers. To date, the campaign has raised nearly $11 million dollars for scholarships and mentoring initiatives for students, faculty and staff innovation, and technology to provide the most up-to-date training. Investors may make gifts in the form of cash, securities, personal property, and planned gifts of many types.
