Wake Tech Welcomes New Trustee
RALEIGH, N.C. (February 19, 2013) - The Board of Trustees of Wake Technical Community College is pleased to welcome a new member, Richard Boyd. Appointed by former Governor Bev Perdue, Boyd was sworn in as the newest trustee on the 12-member board on Tuesday, February 19, by NC Supreme Court Justice Paul M. Newby.
Boyd is Director of Emerging/Disruptive Technology at Lockheed Martin, where he leads a team of innovative engineers and designers to harness cutting-edge computer gaming and virtual world technologies to improve human performance. Before joining Lockheed Martin in 2007, Boyd served as founder and CEO of 3Dsolve, a North Carolina-based computer game technology firm that Lockheed Martin acquired. He holds an undergraduate degree in Military History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and serves on the advisory board of North Carolina Virtual Public Schools. Boyd and his wife Vanessa live in Chapel Hill.

We’re educating students and training workers for a world that increasingly demands highly-technical skills and innovative thinking. Richard’s experience and expertise will be invaluable assets.”
Wake Tech is served by 12 trustees, all of whom are appointed: four by the governor, four by the Wake County Board of Commissioners, and four by the Wake County Board of Education. An ex-officio student representative (usually the president of Wake Tech’s Student Government Association) also serves on the board. Trustees establish policy for Wake Tech, approve the annual budget, and serve as advocates for the college and its services. Trustees also select the college president when that need arises.
