RALEIGH, N.C. (February 22, 2013) - Making a difference—one can at a time. Students at Wake Tech Community College have been collecting canned food items for students in need for more than a month. The Student Government Association (SGA) and Eagle Productions, another student group that plans activities and special events, organized the food drive, which netted more than 1,600 non-perishable items from students, faculty and staff. The items were distributed on three of Wake Tech’s campuses, and nearly 100 students received much-needed food.
“We organized this event to respond to a need,” said Luanne Burns, Student Activities Coordinator. “There are hungry students in our community, and we wanted to help out in a meaningful way.”
Burns says the SGA and Eagle Productions want to make the food drive an ongoing service project, with multiple food drives taking place throughout the year.
