Wake Tech Names Dean of Business and Industry Services

RALEIGH, N.C. (August 12, 2013) - Dr. Stephen Scott, president of Wake Tech Community College, has named Tim Lucas the new Dean of Business and Industry Services at the college’s Western Wake Campus, in Cary. In his new role, Lucas will use his 25 years of management and leadership experience in business and industry to serve current clients and to identify new and expanding businesses that can benefit from the services Wake Tech offers. This includes customized training for corporations as well as resources for small business owners and entrepreneurs. His goal is to penetrate markets and customer bases that have not traditionally been served.

“This is a plus for the whole region,” says Dr. Scott. “Tim’s experience is second to none, and as Dean he will be able to do more for this community’s many startups and businesses that are ready to grow and expand their reach. We’re extremely fortunate to have someone with his background on board.”

Lucas, Wake Tech’s first and only Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt, has been the corporate and professional trainer at the college since 2011, teaching Lean Six Sigma certification programs. He will now oversee the entire program and mentor two former students who are Black Belt certified to teach the Green Belt certification class. Green Belt is offered in a hybrid format that blends classroom and online instruction. Lean Six Sigma is a highly-regarded approach to quality improvement and increased efficiency in business practices. Master Black Belt is the highest of four levels of Six Sigma certification, qualifying those who earn it to train, coach, and mentor others. Wake Tech also offers Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification program.

“It gives me great joy to see two Wake Tech Lean Six Sigma graduates build upon the foundation,” says Dean Lucas. “When I joined the college two years ago I did not realize I would have this opportunity to lead Business and Industry Services. However, I am eternally grateful to Dr. Scott and other members of senior leadership for the opportunity to grow the Business and Industry team and ultimately provide our clients an exceptional experience.”

Lucas received his MBA with a concentration in Organizational Leadership from Ashford University in 2008, his certification in World Class Manufacturing Management from the UVA-Darden Business School in 1997, and his Bachelor of Arts from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1986. His certifications include Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Certified Lean Enterprise Expert, Certified TQM Facilitator, Master Certificate in Supply Chain Management, and ISO 9001 Certified Auditor.
