Wake Tech’s Adult Education Center Hosts Open House

RALEIGH, N.C. (August 22, 2013) - Wake Tech’s Adult Education Center (AEC) hosted an open house today as part of the college’s year-long 50thanniversary commemoration. Instructors, administrators, and community partners celebrated successes and learned about exciting changes in the College and Career Readiness division.

The Adult Education Center opened in 1993; in 2010, the AEC Annex opened to expand services to students. The AEC is located on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh on a major CAT bus line. It provides a central, accessible facility for adults who need to strengthen basic skills, improve academic performance, and enhance employability. The center offers a variety of programming, including adult basic education, English as a Second Language (ESL), high school equivalency preparation, and continuing education classes.

“We continue to assist students in developing basic skills,” says College and Career Readiness Dean Monica Gemperlein, “but we also work with students as they prepare for the next phase of their education.”

The AEC serves 1,000 people each day. With more than 1,000 students graduating each year, Wake Tech’s GED program is the largest in the state.

Sponsors for the open house included Bobby Murray Chevrolet, Dunkin Donuts, Gateway Restaurant, Krispy Kreme Donuts, On the Border Restaurant, P.F. Chang’s Restaurant, Vincent’s Restaurant, Anita Pearson, Billy Shaw, and Sharon Williams.
