Wake Tech President Receives Ceremonial Mace

RALEIGH, N.C. (November 13, 2013) - The Wake Tech Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society had a special gift for Wake Tech President Stephen Scott at their fall induction ceremony. Students presented Dr. Scott with a mace – an ornamental staff made of metal or wood, traditionally carried in academic processions – to commemorate Wake Tech’s 50thanniversary this year. The mace bears the Wake Tech seal and the eagle that serves as college mascot. It will become a part of graduation ceremonies in the future.

“The mace is constructed of different types of wood, representing Wake Tech’s strength through diversity,” says Phi Theta Kappa advisor Steven Hill. “We think it is a fitting symbol and one that will serve as a source of pride for students and staff.”|

Forty-two students were inducted into the honor society during the ceremony, which included music by the Wake Tech Chorus. Raleigh Mayor Pro-Tem Eugene Weeks congratulated students on their academic achievement and challenged them “to continue striving for success, here at Wake Tech and beyond.”

Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, the official honor society for community colleges, is the largest honor society in higher education. It is headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi.
