Careers in Sports: Charlotte Hornets Create a Buzz for Wake Tech Students
Charlotte, N.C. (March 22, 2018) - Thirty-two Wake Tech students got the chance to check out sports careers, courtesy of the Charlotte Hornets! The students, from 15 different degree programs, attended the team’s annual Careers in Sports Day at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte today. The event, designed to showcase career options in professional sports and arena management, highlights resources available to future graduates.
“Wake Tech’s involvement in Career in Sports Day was a collaboration between Pathways Male Mentoring Services, Career and Employment Resources, and Wake Tech Athletics,” explained William Kincy, Coordinator of Pathways Male Mentoring Services. “Trips of this nature give our students a more realistic feel to their major and may serve to broaden the scope of their field of study.”
The event included a Q & A session with Hornets executives, operation managers, and support staff. David Mason, Account Executive encouraged Wake Tech students to evaluate a wide range of career options for their degrees. “Some students have no idea where their degrees can take them,” said Mason. “A day like this gives additional insight on what a career in sports is like and the knowledge and networking a student needs to land such a career.”
Christopher Purham, studying to complete an Associate in Arts, found Careers in Sports Day to be a valuable experience, “Not only is having a degree an asset, but I was able to hear first hand how worthwhile networking can be for landing a job in this field.”
