Math Students Excel In National Competition

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 7, 2014) - Wake Tech students “crunched the numbers” successfully to excel in the national Student Math League (SML) competition, sponsored by the American Mathematics Association of Two Year Colleges (AMATYC). Students from 35 states and Bermuda, in courses from pre-calculus through top-level calculus, participated. The competition involves two 50-minute math tests, taken in fall and spring. Scores are combined to determine winners. Wake Tech students earned several awards.
Top scorers from Wake Tech were:
- 1st place: Prem Shah
- 2nd place: Sungwoong Lee
- 3rd place: Jacob Crosmer
- 4th place: Jisub Kim & Lawrence Grossfeld
In the Team Competition:
- 1st place in NC: Prem Shah, Sungwoong Lee, Jacob Crosmer, Jisub Kim, and Lawrence Grossfeld
- 2nd place in the Southeast: Prem Shah, Sungwoong Lee, Jacob Crosmer, Jisub Kim, and Lawrence Grossfeld
More than 100 Wake Tech students participated in the SML competition.
