RALEIGH, N.C. (September 2, 2015) - NC Treasurer Janet Cowell visited Wake Tech today to present the college with an award for its commitment to worksite wellness. Treasurer Cowell announced that the award is part of the State Health Plan’s new Wellness Champions Program. Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott and Wellness Coordinator Frank Fields accepted the award, in Wake Tech’s gymnasium on Main Campus. Wake Tech is the first to receive a Diamond-level prize from the Wellness Champions Program, which was designed to encourage organizations to improve employee wellness.

“We are very proud of the work you are doing here at Wake Tech,” said Treasurer Cowell. “You are taking workplace wellness to new levels and serving as a model for others.”

“Wellness is an important initiative here at the college,” said President Scott. “We want our employees to improve their health and wellness, and as an added bonus, their productivity at work.”

The college offers multiple workplace wellness opportunities, including free fitness classes, health fairs, walking clubs, healthy cooking expos, nutrition counseling and wellness-based professional development.

Treasurer Cowell visited a 12:30 p.m. fitness class that allows employees to exercise during their lunch hours.
