Instructor Honored For Contributions To Criminal Justice Education

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 16, 2016) - Associate professor and department head Janie Slaughter has been honored with a place in the Criminal Justice Wall of Fame at Wake Tech’s Public Safety Education Campus. Slaughter was recognized for her years of dedication and service in the field of criminal justice education. Slaughter has been at Wake Tech for 20 years and has also taught at North Carolina Central University, North Carolina Wesleyan College and Campbell University.
 
Slaughter has presided over the growth of Wake Tech’s Criminal Justice Technology program in recent years, including its move to the Public Safety Education Campus in 2008. Enrollment is now more than 1,400 students. She is credited with developing innovative curricula and training labs for the Latent Evidence Technology program, which is the first of its kind at a community college in the region.
 
Slaughter received her associate’s degree in Criminal Justice at Wake Tech in 1993. She went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees and is currently working on her Ph.D. She holds numerous professional certificates from the North Carolina Justice Academy, including Death Investigation, Basic Anti-Terrorism Awareness, and Fingerprint Classification. In addition to teaching, Slaughter has also worked as a probation/parole officer and a crime scene technician.
