Students Showcase Sweet Skills

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 2, 2024) – Baking students at Wake Tech showed off their sweet skills Thursday at the Scott Northern Wake Campus.

The college hosted Bakers' Row, a popular event that happens twice a year and always attracts a huge crowd. The event featured sweet and savory treats, European cakes and fresh bread.

Students made the baked goodies from scratch. They sold everything from savory ham-and-cheese croissants, quiche, pizza focaccia bread and puff pastry cheese straws to tarts, cakes, cookies, eclairs and brownies.

Shoppers snatched up most of the homemade treats, and the event nearly sold out.

"I am so proud of our students," said Chef Caralyn House, Baking and Pastry Arts senior professor and program director. "They worked hard to prepare delicious treats and learned valuable business skills that will help them in the future. Thank you to everyone who purchased something yummy to eat!"

Bakers' Row is an end-of-year project for students in the Baking & Pastry Arts AAS degree program, which prepares aspiring bakers for entry into the industry as pastry chefs, cake designers and bakery managers.
