Come hear one of our own Wake tech Instructors discuss the field of Medical Anthropology. Courtney Canter is an Adjunct Anthropology Instructor at Wake Tech and a PhD Candidate at UNC Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on the intersection between gun violence and security culture in the US. Currently, she is conducting field research in Miami, Florida where she is studying the implementation of school shooting preparedness initiatives in K-12 schools. She is particularly interested in active shooter drills and other forms of preparedness simulation, and how cultural assumptions and experiences related to class and race become embedded in these forms of safety exercises.
