The Massage Therapy program prepares students to work in direct client care settings to provide manipulation, methodical pressure, friction and kneading of the body to maintain wellness or treat alterations in wellness throughout the lifespan.
Coursework includes normal human anatomy and physiology, therapeutic massage, ethical/legal issues and business practices. Employment opportunities may be found in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, health departments, home health agencies, medical offices, nursing homes, spas, health and sports clubs and private practice.
This program is designed to prepare students to sit for the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx) through classwork and practical, hands-on training. Students will obtain a foundation for practice as an entry-level professional massage therapists. Topics will include education, anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology, communication, client evaluation, technique, pain relief, stress management, professional standards and practice management.
The North Carolina Board of Massage & Bodywork Therapy regulates the practice in the state to ensure minimum standards of competency and to protect public health, safety and welfare.
Enrollment requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old
Submit a copy of a high school diploma, high school equivalency diploma or official or unofficial college transcript
Pass a criminal background check
Meet the English language requirement
