Foster Youth to Benefit from Holiday Caroling Competition

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 21, 2024) – Wake Tech students who grew up in the foster care system will get support from a new holiday event in Raleigh. The Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition, sponsored by Partnerships for Transformation, will benefit Wake Tech's Fostering Bright Futures program.

Organizers are seeking teams to perform two to four Christmas carols at the event, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. December 7 in Moore Square in downtown Raleigh. Anyone interested can register their team at figgypuddingnc.org. Registration fees will be waived for all Wake Tech students, faculty and staff.

"We're grateful for this unique opportunity to support former foster youth pursuing degrees at Wake Tech," said Wake Tech Vice President for Development Matt Smith. "I encourage anyone who likes to sing, have fun and show their holiday spirit to register a team and help raise funds for Fostering Bright Futures."

Fostering Bright Futures not only covers the cost of tuition and other expenses at Wake Tech, but also provides a support system to help former foster youth achieve their educational goals. Statistics show that less than 10% of children who grow up in foster care go on to earn a college degree.

This is the inaugural year for the Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition in Raleigh. In addition to the performances by caroling teams, the free event will have a holiday village, food trucks, activities for children, craft beer and mulled wine for adults and an appearance by Santa Claus.

Organizers stress that you don't have to be pitch perfect to participate, and those who prefer not to sing can show their support by donating to a team. It's all about fun! The event has numerous sponsors, including the North Carolina Railroad Company. Event organizers are excited about this being a multicultural celebration to kick off a special time of year for so many.
