Description

The Office of Volunteerism & Leadership along with Activate Good have complied 4 virtual/distance service options. We will kick off the festivities with an information session on Monday going deeper into why to volunteer and its importance to the local community. For the remainder of the week pick a day (or two), partner up with friends, and give back in a digital world.

  • Monday Motivation - Investing in Yourself & Your Community: The Importance of Volunteerism
    • Monday, April 19th 1pm - 2pm
    • This will be a virtual Microsoft Teams Meeting. Click the hyperlink at start time to join the meeting.
    • **This Monday event is a part of the Wake Tech Invest in Yourself Month. This partnership with Student Money Management brings you programming to encourage investing in your own future. For a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card, attend any 3 "Invest in Yourself" events throughout the month of April. Entry will be automatic based on attendance records.
  • Storytelling Tuesday - with The Boys & Girls Club
    • Volunteers for this project will film themselves as they read a story for elementary-aged children for the Boys & Girls Club to share with families.
  • Wonderful Words Wednesday - with the Lung Cancer Initiative
    • Volunteers will record a short video that provides words of encouragement & support to lung cancer survivors in celebration of National Cancer Survivor's Day. Clips will be shared as a part of the Lung Cancer Initiative's virtual survivor day later this year.
  • Thoughtful Thursday - with the Zakat Foundation
    • Volunteers will craft colorful greeting & encouragement cards for local seniors to brighten their spirits.
  • Diaper Duty Friday - with the Diaper Bank
    • Volunteers will select a shift to wrap diaper and other healthcare products at the local Durham Diaper Bank warehouse.
    • With this distance opportunity, please practice the three W's: wear a mask, wait 6 feet apart from others, and wash your hands often for 20 seconds. If feeling unwell, be sure to select a opportunity that is fully virtual.

Opportunities (noted for Tuesday through Friday) are our recommendations to get involved in the community and can be completed at any time during National Volunteerism Month of April. Click the hyperlinks above for full details and to sign up to volunteer.
