In this very informative program, participants will develop an understanding of how the law affects the practice of prehospital and emergency care and why it is essential to document for the patient and not the lawyers.
1. Introduce and discuss common legal concepts like negligence, abandonment, and the establishment of the provider/patient relationship.
2. Discuss how the decisions in previous California EMS-related court cases follow and guide how EMS is delivered in 2025.
3. Offer tools that providers at every level can employ to ensure better patient care as well as provider protection.
4. Discuss the WHAT and WHY of prehospital and emergency documentation.
5. Identify opportunities for improving the way AMA and other patient refusals are executed and documented.
