In 2013, Wake Tech became the first community college in North Carolina, and one of the first in the nation, to offer MOOCs, Massive Open Online Courses. MOOCs are self-paced, free of charge and available to students anywhere in the world. MOOC students do not earn college credit.
Sponsored Programs partners with leaders across the college to raise funds in the form of grants and appropriations from federal, state and local governments, as well as foundations, to foster innovation and address unmet needs of the college. The Sponsored Programs team also provides grant management and compliance support to ensure the college achieves maximum impact from sponsored programs in support of student success.
Wake Tech was awarded more than $14 million in grants and appropriations in 2021-22, with 13 of its 15 submitted public and private competitive grant proposals receiving funding, and eight submittals pending. Of these funds, the college was allocated more than $2.4 million to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, of which the Sponsored Programs staff provided administration and compliance oversight. In an effort to further diversify the college's funding portfolio, the Sponsored Programs team also led the proposal development for federal community project funding (pending.)
The Wake Tech Foundation makes it possible for anyone in the community who wants a college education to get one so that our region remains the best place to live and work in the world. Give Now
