ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Wake Tech’s 2012-13 graduates (236) who earned A.A., A.S., and A.A.S. degrees had an overall average GPA of 3.13 after their first year (2013-14) at a UNC System institution, compared with UNC native juniors’ overall average GPA of 3.04.
Wake Tech is fully accredited and offers more than 200 associate’s degrees, diplomas, and certificates that prepare students for college/university transfer or immediate employment. College/University Transfer programs allow students to earn an associate’s degree while completing core courses required for a bachelor’s degree at a four-year institution. Articulation agreements ensure a smooth transition. Career programs (A.A.S.) prepare students to enter the workforce. Many also offer transfer options.
Associate in Arts (AA)
is for students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree in one of the liberal arts disciplines – accounting, business administration, art, criminal justice, elementary education, English, history, nursing, political science, psychology, social work, sociology, and other disciplines – or training at a professional school that requires a strong liberal arts background.
Associate in Science (AS)
is for students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, animal science, biology, chemistry, computer science, food science, forestry, mathematics, pharmaceutical science, physics, pre-dental, pre-medical, pre-pharmacy, and other disciplines – or training in professional programs that require a strong mathematics and science background.
Associate in Engineering (AE)
is for students who plan to transfer to a bachelor’s degree program in engineering – aerospace, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, or mechanical.
Associate in Fine Arts (AFA)
is for students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree in visual art or music. Many AFA courses are transferrable to UNC system institutions and independent North Carolina colleges. Wake Tech has developed innovative transfer agreements with North Carolina Wesleyan College and the Savannah College of Art and Design and is pursuing others.
Associate in Applied Science (AAS)
provides a general education foundation along with focused study in nursing, criminal justice, culinary arts, high performance computing, and other disciplines. Many AAS degree programs transfer in full or in part to four-year colleges and universities in North Carolina – offering graduates of career and technical programs opportunities to build on the technical training they receive at Wake Tech.
Workforce Continuing Education programs offer a wide variety of educational opportunities to gain new skills, earn professional credentials, complete high school, learn languages, find new hobbies, and much more.
