New Coach Named for Men's Soccer
RALEIGH, N.C. (February 17, 2017) - Men’s soccer at Wake Tech has a new leader – with a passion for success. Athletic Director Barry Street announced today that Ted Awana takes over as head coach for the men's soccer program.
"Ted not only has the experience we need," Street said, "but a proven chemistry with athletes and staff! He has already demonstrated the leadership that will make this transition smooth and our upcoming season a winning one."
Awana has served as an assistant coach for men's soccer at Louisburg College for the past five seasons where he helped guide the Hurricanes to a 2012 National Championship appearance and the 2015 National Championship. He'll now be able to start building his own legacy as he looks to return the Eagles to prominence in Region X.
"I'm thrilled to be here," Awana said. "I look forward to building a top-notch program. One of my core values is academic excellence. Producing scholar-athletes will be a cornerstone of our program, but most importantly beneficial to every student-athlete who wears our uniform."
Awana will hit the ground running, he says, beginning recruitment immediately and bringing an exciting, possession-oriented style to the sport: "I will seek out quality student-athletes to represent the college while making our students and fans proud."
